Insulating Material:
The insulating material shall be aromatic polyamide paper. The paper covering shall consist of one or more tapes, each of which shall be firmly, tightly, evenly and continuously wound around the wire and constructed to provide the specified number of tape layers (paper thickness). The paper covering shall consist of at least two layers of paper with an overlap of not less than 40%.
Characteristic:
Adhesion and flexibility: | 8-9 AWG: covering shall not open sufficiently to expose the bare wire, nor shall it be possible to slide the paper along the wire, after the specimen is elongated 15% (+2, -0) and wound around a 5d mandrel 4/0-7 AWG: covering shall not open sufficiently to expose the bare wire norshall the covering show any tearing 4/0-7 AWG: covering shall not loosen appreciably nor open sufficiently to expose the bare wire after bending around a 6d mandrel |
Elongation | Not less than 15% |
Dielectric breakdown | Not less than 300 V/mil (11800 V/mm) minimum thickness of single-sided paper coverage (half of the minimum increase) |
